Proud Robins

We are the official LGBTQ+ supporters network at Cheltenham Town FC.

Our purpose is to support and build LGBTQ+ inclusion and acceptance for fans, players and staff at Cheltenham Town FC.

We are a social group for LGBTQ+ Cheltenham fans, allies, together with their family and friends.

We provide a welcoming space, as well as a platform from which to raise awareness of, and campaign against all forms of discrimination and equality, and particularly homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in football.

As recently as October 2021, Josh Cavallo of Adelaide United became the world’s only openly gay male top-flight professional footballer.

This is no coincidence and points at an uncomfortable truth in the footballing world. Stonewall (a leading LGBTQ+ charity and the pioneer of the Rainbow Laces campaign) report that:

  • 7 in 10 football fans who have attended a match have heard or witnessed homophobia in the terraces;
  • 2 in 3 LGBTQ+ people feel like that there are problems with homophobia and transphobia in sport which has acted as a barrier to participation for LGBTQ+ people; and
  • a majority of football fans think that not enough is being done by the governing authorities to tackle homophobia abuse.

This is something we can all help to change.

We exist in partnership with Cheltenham Town Football Club, the Robins Trust, the Community Trust and the Football Supporters Association.

To coincide with the Rainbow Laces campaign, Proud Robins will launch officially ahead of our home match against Lincoln City on 11 December 2021.
